The oil palm has a crown of 35–60 pinnate fronds arranged on a vascular stem. It has a single bud in the base of the crown where fronds and inflorescences originate. The palm may reach a height between 15 and 30 m and can last up to 300 years. It is monoecious with male or female inflorescences occurring separately.
